This guide is for learning. Run these commands only on your own lab or servers.

In this lab one router acts as the DHCP server and one server answers DNS. Use the private range 192.168.10.0/24.

1. DHCP pool on the router

ip dhcp excluded-address 192.168.10.1 192.168.10.10
ip dhcp pool LAN10
 network 192.168.10.0 255.255.255.0
 default-router 192.168.10.1
 dns-server 192.168.10.10

2. DNS server

Click the server, open Services, then DNS. Turn it on and add an A record such as lab.local pointing to 192.168.10.10.

3. Verify

show ip dhcp binding
ping lab.local

Set a PC to DHCP. It should receive an address, the gateway and the DNS server.

Packet Tracer is a simulator. Real devices need the same ideas but different safety checks.
